The NHS had two Linear Accelerators to pass on to Trusts that could house them with in a strict time limt. The SUHNHST were already looking at proposals to remodel the whole of the Oncology department but couldn’t afford to miss this opportunity.
The brief therefore called for a building that could be built quickly, provide suitable radiation protection, and was ready with the least disturbance to be extended in all 5 directions.
