In 2022 Studio Four obtained planning permission for the conversion of a modern agricultural building into a 4 bedroom dwelling in the South Downs National Park under the new Paragraph 49 policy, with the assistance of BCM. The proposal is set back from the main roof overhang to prevent overheating on the south facade of the building. On 2 sides the roof cladding will wrap down the walls of the building, on the other 2 timber cladding is installed to provide natural warmth to the building. A single storey element creates a master bedroom balcony above and scales the building down to its surroundings. The project completed on site in Autumn 2023.
This project was highly sustainable incorporating ground based PV panels and an Air Source Heat Pump. As a result the building has a negative CO2 impact of -1.7 tonnes of CO2 (an average household produces 6 tonnes of CO2 per year), and an Energy Rating 'A'.
